As expected, former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was not out of work for long — though it was longer than the five minutes that he had predicted.

Brian Costello of the New York Post is passing along the news that the St. Louis Rams have hired Ryan as the team’s defensive coordinator.

The report is not 100% confirmed at this point.

According to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network, “From what I gather he is definitely the top choice there but heard no contract with Rams just yet.”

This will be Ryan’s fourth stint as a defensive coordinator since 2004. Prior to his time with the Cowboys, Ryan led the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders defensive units. Ryan will now join the coaching staff of Jeff Fisher — who previously played for and coached under Ryan’s father, Buddy — and hope to take the Rams defense to the next level.

Ryan has some solid building blocks in place in St. Louis. It will just be up to him to make the pieces come together.
