Paging Ron Burgandy.
President Obama gave his inauguration speech today at yet another historical ceremony. But while everyone in the world knows who President Obama is, it seems the news world isn’t as familiar with Celtics legend Bill Russell. During the Inauguration address, ABC anchor George Stephanopolis spotted Bill Russell in the crowd and pointed him out to the world — only he thought he was looking at actor Morgan Freeman.
“That’s Morgan Freeman, I think, right there on the Capitol steps,” Stephanopoulos said as ABC cameras panned to what was very clearly not the 6-foot-2 Oscar nominated actor. “No, Bill Russell, I’m sorry.”
You’d think after all they have accomplished in their respective careers, that a seasoned anchor like Stephanopolis would be able to tell the difference between a 6-foot-9 NBA legend who’s been selected to 12 All-Star teams, and the guy who drove around Miss Daisy and showed the world that Brad Pitt was good looking and could act in Seven.
How you can confuse the two men is beyond me, but somehow ABC managed to do exactly that on Monday.
Apparently if you’re not a super tan, 25 year old party animal with a stupid catchphrase, people forget who you are. Andy Dufresne is most displeased Stephanopolis, most displeased.
