Charlotte 49ers guard DeMario Mayfield has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of the athletic department policy. 49ers director of athletics Judy Rose and head basketball coach Alan Major announced the decision to suspend the junior guard today.
“We are disappointed to make this announcement,” Rose said. “Our policies are in place for a reason and our student-athletes are expected to abide by them.”
Mayfield is in his second year with Charlotte after transferring from Georgia.
“We are disappointed in the decisions that DeMario has made which has led to the suspension,” Major said. “We will stay the course and we will rally around each other.”
Mayfield averages 11.7 points with 3.6 rebounds this season. His point average is a team high.
There are no further details or comments from the 49ers at this time.
