The 2013 NFL Scouting Combine is set to begin on Wednesday, February 20 and run through Tuesday, February 26 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The combine is one of the last big chances for NFL Draft hopefuls to impress the scouts.
This year, an impressive list of 333 players have been invited to the job interview that draftniks prefer to call the “Underwear Olympics.”
Out of the 333 players invited, 170 are players from the offensive side — including 19 quarterbacks. 149 of the invitees play on the defensive side of the ball with the remaining players being special teamers.
There is also 66 underclassmen that have been invited to the Scouting Combine.
An official list of combine invitees has not been released to the public just yet, but NFL.com’s Gil Brandt says the list is close to being finalized.
One interesting stat among the combine invitees is their college affiliation. As you would expect, college football’s most dominating conference, the SEC, dominates the invitee list.
As a small example, LSU has thirteen players that have been invited to Indy, with Georgia being represented by eleven players and Alabama with ten.
This is just the latest example of the SEC’s college dominance making it’s impact felt at the next level.
