Vladimir Tarasenko Named NHL Rookie of the Month

St. Louis Blues right winger Vladimir Tarasenko has been the NHL Rookie of the Month for January. Tarasenko earned the honors after leading all first-year players in points. He tallied five goals and four assists during the month.

Tarasenko beat out Tampa Bay Lightning center Cory Conacher, Edmonton Oilers center Nail Yakupov, Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz and Montreal Canadiens center Alex Galchenyuk for the honors. Tarasenko burst onto the scene with two goals in his first game and never looked back.

Here is Tarasenko’s statistical breakdown for January, via the NHL:

Jan. 19 DETROIT 2 0 2 6-0 win
Jan. 21 at Nashville 1 2 3 4-3 win (shootout)
Jan. 22 at Chicago 0 0 0 3-2 loss
Jan. 24 NASHVILLE 1 0 1 3-0 win
Jan. 26 at Dallas 0 1 1 4-3 win
Jan. 27 MINNESOTA 0 1 1 5-4 win (overtime)
Jan. 31 at Columbus 1 0 1 4-1 win
TOTALS 5 4 9

Prior to making his NHL debut on January 19, Tarasenko was a standout in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg. The Russian is one of the most impressive rookies in the league and it wouldn’t be surprise him to bring home a few Rookie of the Month honors this year.
