The Florida Gators nabbed a huge pledge today from high-end, three-star 2013 defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who decommitted from the Mississippi Rebels (we all know how well they did today) and had his signing day choice down to two SEC powers in Florida and Alabama. Reed chose the Gators, and the JUCO DT’s selection of the Gators is now official as his Letter of Intent “has arrived and been validated” by the school per Scott Carter of The Gator Zone.
Reed is one of the highest rated junior college recruits in the 2013 class, and the East Mississippi C.C. standout is easily a top ten DT in the JUCO group as well as one of the standouts in the state of Mississippi. He committed to Ole Miss back in December, but he only recently decided not to stick with the in-state school. He actually took his official visit to the Rebels just this past weekend, so that trip to Oxford may have soured his view on the school.
Although they haven’t received the big name recruits, Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators have done an excellent job in this recruiting period with 27 commits and one of the three best hauls in the class.
Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and UNC all had a shot at landing Jarran Reed with official visits, and Reed was once committed to UNC as well. All four of those teams went after the three-star JUCO DT hard, but Florida is the one with his signature and the move to Gainesville is now official for Reed.
