The Florida Gators just wrapped up National Signing Day, but it’s a current player rather than a new recruit that has the Gators scrambling a bit. Besides having a fun name to say, Loucheiz Purifoy was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor possession of marijuana on Sunday, per a report from GatorBait.com.
The university and head coach Will Muschamp are aware of the situation and are handling it.
“Coach Muschamp is aware of the incident and is handling it,” a UF spokesman said.
Purifoy, who is a cornerback for the Gators, was the passenger in a car stopped by Florida police on a right-of-way violation. As the car was being stopped, and as you do when the cops show up, a “cigarette” (See: Doobie) out the window which prompted the officer to double check what was going on inside the vehicle he was stopping.
Upon further inspection of the car, the officer reports that he saw “a baggie containing 2.5 grams of cannabis” sitting by the car’s emergency brake. Now I’m not saying I’ve ever been stopped by the cops while I had pot in my car, but if I was in that situation, even if stoned off my rocks, I probably would have the good sense to put the baggie full of weed somewhere other than in plain sight.
Purifoy didn’t have that good sense and is paying the price for it right now. Just a few days ago, head coach Will Muschamp said that he was expecting to give Purifoy more reps at wide receiver after spending last season as a defensive back. Purifoy tallied 51 tackles and three forced fumbles during his 2012 campaign.
No word on whether or not Purifoy will be a possession receiver or not — oh come on I had to.
