The Boston Celtics worst fear has been concerned. Guard Leandro Barbosa was injured in last night’s loss to the Charlotte Bobcats and all tests and reports are confirming that he has suffered the same fate as point guard Rajon Rondo. Barbosa has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will be forced to miss the remainder of the season.
It was believed after the game that Barbosa would miss the rest of the season and sources confirmed the bad news to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald on Monday afternoon.
“More sources saying what we’ve already been hearing: Testing being done, but it’s looking like an ACL for Barbosa,” Bulpett wrote on Twitter. “Source on whether Barbosa has ACL tear: “They have to do the tests to verify it, but that’s what it looks like.”
Barbosa joins Rondo and Jared Sullinger on the sidelines for the remainder of the year as the Celtics lose even more depth.
Boston will face Chicago on Wednesday before officially heading into the all-star break.
The injury to Barbosa leaves the Celtics with only three healthy backcourt players heading in to the brief hiatus.
