It is true some of these schools fund their whole athletic budget by playing a couple of these games. The players also get to show their talent on a national stage on television, which is something they don't have the opportunity to do as much in their own league.

Great for the Fans? What about these young men getting beat down, week after week after week. If they played BCS teams every week in between their SEC schedule, the fans would end up watching backups play by the end of the season.
Who would like that? If you want to stick your nose in our conference, then go interview someone like Barrett Jones and ask him how he enjoyed playing 4 or so games needing foot surgery. Use a little thought process before you go and jump on someone's band wagon.

This is not cut and dry. For many FCS schools, playing a "big" school has many positives. First and foremost is a big pile of money - money that may keep the football program alive. Also many are using the game with the BCS school at a stepping stone to going BCS. I think this is happening with Alabama-Georgia State. And with the SEC TV contract, many of these games are televised and it is the one change to get the team and its players a chance to be seen on national TV. And finally there is the case where a few years back, Alabama had someone cancel on them when their conferences rules changed and that had to play more conference games. With schedules set years in advance, Alabama had to fill in with a FCS school. Finally playing in the Big 10 is the same a playing 8 or 9 FCS schools each year - unless you were playing 8 or 9 of the best FCS schools. That would be harder. In the SEC, we look for the few easy games as a break. In the Big 10, you look to get up for the very few hard games. That is why Ohio State cannot legally beat an SEC school. No matter your talent, when you play all year against the 8 Weak Sisters of the North, you have not developed the skill to suddenly jump your game to SEC level.

Many of the schools playing FCS opponents do so at the behest of their state legislatures. I believe that, at one point, LSU was going one of the LA FCS schools each year to help keep money in the state. Not sure if that's still the case. Many of the SEC schools will play one quality non-conference game each year. That coupled with the tough conference schedule should suffice.

Every Big Ten Conference schedule is full of cupcakes, unlike the sec conference schedules...sounds like they are just trying to keep up with the sec... How many Big Ten schools play #1 #3 #5 #7 back to back to back to back weeks? UM...none Nuff said!

Yea, the SEC should really try to beef up what is already the toughest schedule in college football. Lets also not consider the 100's of thousands of dollars that the FCS schools would lose. Don't be a hater. You don't like the years of dominance by the SEC? Make your game better, don't try to weaken ours.

When the big 10 has to play an SEC schedule then lets talk. Play against Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina EVERY year and then whine about cupcake schedules. Then play a top 5 team in the country in a conference playoff at the end of the season that determines everything even if you won every game in your season. (that would be Alabama in these parts right now). Writer, educate yourself on things like stats and rankings before writing an article about the SEC and their "cupcake" schedules.

SEC teams already have the toughest schedules in the country, before they start to schedule the out of conference games.

Hurt the teams going forward? Yeah, it has been so bad for the SEC so far hahahaha
