Veteran tight end Tony Gonzalez had previously said that he was 95 percent certain that he would call it a career at the conclusion of the season. Now, it appears that there is some momentum building for his return.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff told Pro Football Talk last week that he believed there was a 50-50 chance that Gonzalez would return and ESPN’s Ed Werder is passing along the news that an unnamed Falcons source had told him, “I think if the circumstances are right, Tony will come back.”

There is little doubt that Gonzalez can still contribute to a NFL team. Just last season, Gonzalez was playing at an elite level and he showed no signs of slowing down.

To make things even more interesting, Gonzalez is set to be a free agent for the first time in his seventeen-year career.

It will be interesting to see how much interest Gonzalez can generate during free agency.
