X Game gold medalist Shaun White has decided not to compete in next month’s X Games Tignes, which is the second leg of the X Games worldwide tour this year. White cited time away from on-snow Olympic training as the reason he’s pulling out of competition.
“Shaun did not compete at the test event in Sochi and will not be competing at [X Games Tignes] due to his training commitments and the number of days on snow he would lose to overseas travel,” White’s representative said in a statement. “He loved competing in Tignes last season, and will miss the European spectators who were so enthusiastic and supportive.”
White struggled in the slopestyle event back in January at X Games Aspen, but he made up for it by winning a record setting sixth straight gold medal in the Men’s SuperPipe event. But it was White’s struggles in the slopestyle that has him determined to get better by any means as the slopestyle is an even White plans on competing in at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Last week White even skipped the Olympic test runs in Sochi, Russia where riders got to run the courses they’ll be competing on next winter. While White could have benefited from testing out the courses, the slopestyle test run was cancelled due to warm weather, and that’s the main course White needs improvement on.
X Game Tignes will be held March 20-22 in Tignes, France.
