Alabama Crimson Tide defensive tackle Jesse Williams was hoping to break the NFL Scouting Combine bench press record on Sunday, but he fell way short of his goal and managed to only put up thirty reps. While it was a disappointing result for Williams, he still managed to finish in the top five in his group.
The most impressive performers on the bench were SMU’s Margus Hunt and Missouri Southern State’s Brandon Williams who both put up 38 reps. It is a very impressive number for Hunt, who has extremely long arms at 6-foot-8.
Here are the top five defensive linemen bench press results:
| Player | School | Height | Weight | Bench Press Reps |
| Margus Hunt | SMU | 6-8 | 277 | 38 |
| Brandon Williams | Missouri Souther State | 6-1 | 335 | 38 |
| Akeem Spence | Illinois | 6-1 | 307 | 37 |
| Josh Boyd | Mississippi State | 6-3 | 310 | 32 |
| Jesse Williams | Alabama | 6-3 | 323 | 30 |
John Jenkins and Abry Jones of Georgia, Bennie Logan of LSU, Sheldon Richardson of Missouri, Trevardo Williams of UCONN, Chris Jones of Bowling Green and Stansly Maponga of TCU were also able to put up thirty reps.
