UCF Knight head coach George O’Leary is ready to lead his team into Big East play this season with three years remaining on his current contract, but the 66-year-old coach could be around a lot longer if the folks at Central Florida get their way.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Leary and Central Florida are in the final stages of talks for a contract extension that would keep him on the Knights sideline through the 2017 season. There are no details or terms of the deal currently available, but an official announcement could be coming soon.
“Obviously, it brings stability and [helps] in recruiting, and if you look at his record here he is graduating his student athletes and has two 10-win seasons in the last three years,” UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury said.”And with the conference changes, it provides a steady hand at the wheel.”
During his nine seasons in Orlando, O’Leary has led the Knights to a 60-55 record that has included two Conference USA titles.
