With the NFL Draft season in full swing, people will make connections between players and teams any way possible and an interesting nugget of information from Auburn’s Pro Day has people making linking between the Pittsburgh Steelers and defensive end/outside linebacker prospect Corey Lemonier.
At the Auburn Pro Day, Lemonier was put through his workout by Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler per an NFL.com report.
There may not be much to the connection, but it is an interesting note since the Steelers need to add youth to the linebacker corp and could add pass rushing depth. Lemonier would fill that need and is viewed by the scouting community as a fringe first-round pick.
Pittsburgh could look to trade down if they have genuine interest in the Auburn product.
If the Steelers are really sold on Lemonier, then they could stay put at pick 17 and make him their selection. The Seattle Seahawks have shown in the past that if you are sold on a player then you should select them with your pick no matter what others think and it has worked out for them so far.
Again, it may be something that we shouldn’t read too much into, but it is interesting to note that the Steelers will be very familiar with a prospect that fills a position of need.
