San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson has previously said he hopes to sign a long-term contract with the team, but he seems to be understanding the fact that it is highly unlikely he will return to the team in 2013.

Reports continue to surface that there is little to no chance that Goldson will return to San Francisco.

Now, with Goldson realizing he may need to consider his options, a team that has surfaced as a potential suitor for Goldson’s services is the Cincinnati Bengals, who Goldson has expressed a mutual interest in.

Goldson has previously said, “I like those guys down there. I went to school with Reggie Nelson, played with Nate Clements, I was here with Taylor Mays and Manny Lawson so I’m familiar with some of those guys and how they play.

“They’ve got a good football team down there. They’re on track and they’ve got a good quarterback and receivers. I will have to consider all my options and we’ll have to see whose interested in me.”

That has to make you think Goldson would be listening if the Bengals came calling and gave him an opportunity to play with the guys he is familiar with.

With the Bengals in serious need of safety help and some cap room, Goldson could be able to score the big money contract he is looking for when he hits the open market.
