It should come as no surprise that shortly after the report of the New York Giants interest in Charles Woodson, that the team’s offer to safety Kenny Phillips was not enough to keep him off of the free agent market.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants made an effort to keep Phillips in town, but he opted to test his options.
Phillips missed missed nine games last season with a sprained right MCL.
The Giants concern over Phillips’ health could be the big issue that kept the two sides apart in contract negotiations. Phillips would reportedly like to re-sign with the Giants and New York would like to keep him, but there will be other options for each side once free agency opens.
Phillips is still only 26-years-old and has the potential to help a NFL franchise.
Let’s see whether or not the Phillips rumors start to heat up once the market opens on March 12.
