Nick Roach isn’t a top tier talent in the NFL but he’s drawing more interest than most free agents are and that’s a testament to his versatility. The Chicago Bears would love to hold on to their middle linebacker but it’s looking like the price will be one the Bears aren’t comfortable with if the interest in Roach is as true as it seems.
In addition to free agents from other teams, the Bears are interested in re-signing some of their own. But they seem content allowing those players to gauge their value elsewhere. For instance, the Bears would like to re-sign linebacker Nick Roach. But according to a source, the number of teams interested in him is approaching double digits. Roach has started at strong-side and middle linebacker in the 4-3 scheme.

The Sun-Times notes that the top free agent linebacker is Dannell Ellerbe and his stats far outweigh the ones Roach turned in during the 2012 season, but Roach’s ability to play both inside and outside linebacker is one that is catching the eye of multiple teams.
One reason the Bears want to hold on to Roach stems from the uncertainty surrounding Brian Urlacher’s future with the team. If Roach is snatched up quickly in free agency, it will put a sense of urgency on the Urlacher situation and will put the Bears in a stressful situation they’d otherwise like to avoid.
