Reports yesterday had tagged the Denver Broncos as the favorite to land free agent running back Rashard Mendenhall, but in a classic move of “not so fast, my friends” the Arizona Cardinals have swooped inand are looking to make a move. Mendenhall, along with quarterback Drew Stanton, flew to Arizona in the middle of the night for a visit.

The two landed around 1:00 a.m. ET and immediately met for the team for a dinner. Mendenhall will now tour the team facility and undergo a physical later today. The belief is that Arizona could lock up Mendenhall later today.

It’s unfortunate for the Broncos who are in the running back market and could lose out on their other target Reggie Bush to the Lions. It will be interesting to see what their back up plan is now.
