It comes as no surprise, but the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially released offensive guard Willie Colon in a move that will save the team $5.5 million as they continue to sort out their salary cap issues.

NFL.com’s Aditi Kinkhabwala passed along the news from a team source.

Colon signed a five-year, $29 million deal in 2011 with the Steelers, but he has been plagued with injuries and the team has began a youth movement along the offensive front.

He has the ability to line up at a number of positions along the offensive line and he should be an intriguing option for teams that are looking for players to help out in the trenches.

Colon should have a market, the real question will be how much money he can get teams to throw at him.
