One free agent running back who is starting to get some attention is ex-New York Jets back Shonn Greene. According to Manish Metha from the New York Daily News, Greene will be in Tennessee on Wednesday visiting the Titans and discussing a contract.

The Titans have not been shy about wanting to help out Chris Johnson in the backfield and while that means upgrading the offensive line, it also means upgrading the situation behind Johnson on the depth chart. Greene and Johnson are two different breeds of running back and Greene actually compliments Johnson very nicely. While Johnson is a dashing, around-the-edge type of running back the flourishes in the open field, Greene is a between-the-tackles back who runs downhill and can provide a sort of change of pace for Tennessee.

Whats more is the fact that their both fast and agile running backs, so while Greene can provide a change of pace, he’s not going to lollygag in open space between defenders.

Last year with the Jets, Greene struggled for most of the season but he did show flashes of what he can be in the right system as Greene is far better suited for a two-back system than being the lone feature back. Despite running behind a suspect offensive line for two seasons, Greene has racked up over 2,000 yards and averaged 4.0 yards per carry over that time.

The offensive line in Tennessee isn’t much better but his ability to make things work is definitely a selling point and potentially is Greene’s ticket away from New York.
