There had been some rumblings about the New England Patriots pursuing Josh Cribbs in free agency as they’re in need of a solid return man. Leon Washington happens to be more than just a solid return man and he also happens to now be a member of the New England Patriots. ate Thursday afternoon, Washington and the Patriots reached an agreement on a brand new deal that will have Washington returning kicks in Foxboro next year.

Obviously Washington isn’t going to be competing for carries in New England, but he’s carved out a nice niche for himself as the best kick returner in the NFL today. Before his time in Seattle, Washington was fighting for carries as a change-of-pace back with the Jets but once he got to Seattle he carved himself out a nice place as one of the premier kick returners in the NFL and he’s respected as such even at the age of 31.
He isn’t going to be a headline signing in the way that Mike Wallace or Wes Welker were , but Washington in New England is just another example of Bill Belichick seeking out talent that can only help his team and essentially getting richer and fatter than he already is.
