New York Giants, Ryan Mundy Set to Visit

The New York Giants have plenty of options at safety, but that won’t stop them from looking to add depth and talent during the free agency period. According to a report from Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants will be hosting former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Mundy on Thursday.

Mundy was set to fly in to New York on Wednesday night and have his official visit today.

New York currently has Antrel Rolle, Stevie Brown and Kenny Phillips, but there are some expectations Phillips will be sign with another team in the coming days or weeks. Mundy would give the Giants another back up player that has some starting experience. While he has only started five games during his time with the Steelers, any experience is quality experience.

During his time in the Steel City, Mundy has 30 tackles and one interception.

Phillips was a beast but like Rivers could not stay healthy enough to show what kind of NFL player he should have been. That knee was a problem and just never got better, he’s damaged goods as the Eagles will find out. Too bad he had the potential to be a hall of famer and had the Pats not lost their first round pick that year they would have chosen Phillips no doubt about that. Mundy won’t just step into the starting position he will have plenty of competition as I think both Thomas and Ross will workout a the FS, that’s the way the Giants work it you play as many positions as possible.
