Newport Beach Country Club is an old-fashioned course that suits Roberts – and just about everybody else on Tour because it levels the playing field. It’s one of the shortest courses on the Champions Tour that tests multiple skills. Even the shorter hitters are capable of reaching the par 5s.

Bernhard Langer, who is the current Schwab Cup leader hasn’t finished out of the top 10 all year, and won two weeks ago at the Ace Group Classic. He leads second place John Cook by 58 points, and Champions Tour Rookie, Rocco Mediate by 177 points. Mediate won his inaugural event at the Allianz last month.

The Toshiba Classic will host a full field of the worlds best players, including 64 year old Tom Watson. Watson, who has been appointed as the Captain of the 2014 Ryder Cup, likes to continue to compete on the regular PGA circuit, and has had only one Senior Circuit appearance in 2013 where he finished tied 23rd at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii back in January.

Friday coverage for this event will be on the Golf Channel Friday night, and will air from 8:30 pm ET, and at 7:30 pm on the weekend, also on the Golf Channel.
