The New England Patriots were relatively inactive early in the free agency period while the wild spending was taking place. Now that the dust has settled, you can expect the Patriots to emerge as active buyers on the open market.
Last night, reports surfaced that the team would be hosting veterans John Abraham and Adrian Wilson on visits and now another veteran free agent has been added to the mix.
Per Tom Curran of CSN New England:
In addition to John Abraham and Adrian Wilson, the Patriots will be hosting Dwight Freeney on a free agent visit. #PatriotsTalk

Freeney is a standout pass rusher that still has some good football left in him. Sure, he is aging, but he was still able to rack up 5 sacks in 14 games last season, which was his first year in the new system.
If New England would bring Freeney in and use him as a situational pass rusher, he could be a very valuable asset to the defensive unit. New England doesn’t always spend big money, but they spend smart money. An addition like Freeney would be further evidence of their philosophy.
