Big East Tournament Championship 2013: Louisville Takes Down Syracuse

It was the final time that the Big East conference as we know it took their conference tournament to Madison Square Garden to determine their champion. In the tournament title match up, the Louisville Cardinals were looking to repeat as Big East champs against while they took on a formidable foe in the Syracuse Orange.

When it was all said and done, Louisville was the first team to win back-to-back Big East tournament championships since Syracuse accomplished the feat in 2005-2006.

The Cardinals earned the Big East title with a 71-68 win.

Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell led the way for the Cardinals with a 20-point, seven rebound performance. For Syracuse, who came up just short, C.J. Fair led the way with 21-points and seven rebounds of his own.

With the Big East tournament now in the books, both fighters can now turn their attention to the big dance.

Syracuse should enter the tournament as a No. 5 seed, while Louisville has all but guaranteed themselves a No. 1 seed and potentially the top seed in the entire tournament.

While the speculation is nice, the complete field of tournament participants will be announced on Selection Sunday less than twenty four hours from now.

Be sure to stay tuned to throughout championship week as we keep you up to date with the latest conference champions and teams that earn automatic bids into the 2013 NCAA tournament field.
