UFC 150: GSP vs. Diaz is set to take place live on pay-per view tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As you know by now, there is some bad blood between main event participants Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, who will be battling it out for the UFC’s welterweight championship. It has been a fight years in the making and they will finally get to settle their differences in the octagon on Saturday night.
In the lead up to the fight, GSP and Diaz have been exchanging harsh words with each other that has led to even more animosity between the two. In his last interview before the fight, St-Pierre spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.com and gave his thoughts on how the fight would finish.
When Helwani asked for St-Pierre’s prediction on how the fight would end, he vowed to finish the Stockton, California product.
Here is what GSP had to say:
While the talk was entertaining and surely helped sell pay-per views, the talking is now done and it is time to fight.
St-Pierre has not finished an opponent since January of 2009, when the corner of BJ Penn threw in the towel. Since that time, he has gone the distance in five consecutive bouts. The strong wrestling and lack of finishes from St-Pierre have led to criticism from the fans, but GSP looks like a new animal heading into his bout against Diaz and he could finally give the fans the finish that they have been waiting four years for.
On Diaz’s end, he has never been submitted and has only lost via TKO twice — one of those was a doctor’s stoppage because of a cut. He is very durable in the cage and it will be hard for GSP to secure the finish.
Whether or not we get a finish, this bout is set up to be an entertaining, back-and-forth brawl.
