NCAA Tournament 2013: VCU Blows By Akron

The Akron Zips entered the 2013 NCAA Tournament wounded and unprepared for a run in the tournament. Unfortunately for the Zips, it showed. They ran into an unstoppable force in the second-round of the tournament when the VCU Rams came ready to play and showing no mercy for their opponent.

VCU showed off their defense, which forces the most turnovers in the nation, and put on an offensive clinic to beat the Zips, 88, 42.

Akron was reeling from the flu bug, fever and a starting point guard in legal troubles, so it comes as no surprise that the team was unable to put on the type of performance that they had hoped for.

In the next round, VCU will match up against No. 4 seed Michigan. In their second-round match up, the Wolverines steam rolled South Dakota State by a score of 71-56. The Wolverines will have a much tougher match up when they face off against Shaka Smart and the Rams on Saturday.

Will VCU be able to make another Final Four run or will their quest be stopped short by Michigan?
