Free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora is expected to see his time on the open market come to an end within the next 48 hours. According to Pro Football Talk, a source close to Umenyiora’s situation told the website that the former New York Giants pass rusher will be signing with the Atlanta Falcons either Sunday or Monday.

Atlanta is the place,” the source told PFT.

Umenyiora will give the Falcons a much needed boost in the pass rushing department and immediately fill the void that was created by the departure of John Abraham.

The two-time Super Bowl Champion led the NFC in sacks back in 2005 and has 75 sacks in his career. At 31-years-old, Umenyiora has a few solid years of production left to give.

Atlanta could still look to add defensive end help in the 2013 NFL Draft, but they are off to a good start if the Umenyiora signing becomes official.

Umenyiora is one of many veteran defensive ends still on the free agent market, so once Umenyiora decides to sign we could start to see some dominoes begin to fall.
