UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be showing off his acting chops over the next few months in the Marvel hit, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The film is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2014. St-Pierre will be portraying one of the villains in the Marvel sequel, Batroc the Leaper.
If you are unfamiliar with Batroc the Leaper, the information about his character fits right into GSP’s wheelhouse.
Here is info on the character, via Latino-Review.com:
Batroc has no superhuman abilities, but is in peak physical condition in every respect. He is an Olympic-level weightlifter and has extraordinary agility and reflexes. His leg muscles are particularly well-developed which enables him to leap great distances with the strength of an Olympic athlete. He is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and specializes in savate (French-style kickboxing). He is also a skilled military tactician, having formerly been in the French Foreign Legion.
So St-Pierre essentially has to play an athlete in peak condition that has Olympic athleticism and is a French mixed martial artist. Tough gig, GSP. Batroc also speaks French and English, so that will help the athlete out when he puts himself into character.
We are beginning to see mixed martial arts stars dabble in the acting world and it should only happen more and more as the sport continues to grow in popularity.
If you are looking for an action star in a film, what better way to cast a role than to pick a real life action star.
