The Washington Redskins have been linked to former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield for a couple of weeks and their mutual interest is about to go to the next level. Winfield is one of the top remaining corners available in free agency and the Redskins will be bringing him in for a visit in hopes of adding to their secondary.
The team released DeAngelo Hall earlier this month, so the need for defensive back help is certainly there.
Redskins insider Chris Russell of ESPN Radio 980 confirmed the report:

Winfield is one of the most physical cornerbacks in the league and is among the top tacklers at his position.
With physical receivers on the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants like Dez Bryant and Hakeem Nicks, the Redskins would benefit from adding a presence like Winfield to their defense.
There is no certainty that the Redskins and Winfield will agree to a deal during his visit, but the interest is there so it is certainly something to keep a close eye on.
