Elite 8 2013: Marquette Blows By No. 2 Miami To Move Past Sweet 16

The Miami Hurricanes entered their match up on Thursday evening against the Marquette Golden Eagles with hopes of advancing to the Elite 8, but those dreams were shattered after an incredible and dominating performance from Marquette. Miami came out slow and the Hurricanes were unable to make a shot. Unfortunately for Shane Larkin and company, it never got any better.

Marquette completed their upset over Miami with a final score of 71-61, but the game was not as close as the score indicates. Marquette was knocked out of the Sweet 16 four out of the past five years, so the result was very welcomed.

The Golden Eagles jumped out early and never looked back.

“It’s amazing, man,” Marquette’s Vander Blue said in a postgame television interview. “Everybody said this team wasn’t any good.”

Vander Blue was a key part of Marquette’s upset victory, but the team’s leading scorer was Jamil Wilson, who finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Shane Larkin led the Hurricanes with 14 points.

Marquette will now wait for the winner of No. 1-seed Indiana and No. 4 Syracuse, which is taking place this evening. Who will the Golden Eagles face in the Elite 8? We will know for sure in a matter of hours.
