Professional hockey takes one of the most unique skill sets in all of sports. If you aren’t an elite skater, chances are you will be embarrassed on a regular occasion and spend most of your time face-planting and butt-flopping on the ice. Personally, I can’t make my way around a skating rink any better than Joey Logano can make his way around a race track without swapping paint, so I can sympathize with San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture.
Early in the Sharks game against the Detroit Red Wings at the HP Pavilion on Thursday night, Couture was abused by Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk with one of the most beautiful crossovers you will see on the ice this year.
In the NBA, it is a regular occurrence to see a ball-handler break a defenders ankles, but Datsyuk brought that experience to the ice.
In the first period, Datsyuk was deep in the Sharks zone when he took the puck and executed a thing of beauty. Couture tried to stick with Datsyuk, but he ended up tripping over his own feet with a brilliant move by Datsyuk.
The crossover was almost too good to be true and was met with laughter from the broadcasting team.
You have to see it to believe it:
Ouch. Sorry about your luck, Couture.
At least Couture can hang his hat on the fact that Datsyuk is one of the best in the game.
