The longtime University of Alabama athletic director Mal Moore has passed away. The unfortuante news surfaced on Saturday, via Cecil Hurt of TideSports.com.

Moore had recently stepped down from his position as athletic director because of health issues. The university replaced him with former Crimson Tide football player Bill Battle will fill the vacancy. Battle was also a former head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

We would like to send out our condolences to the entire Moore family and the university. Moore was a key member of the Crimson Tide’s success and was responsible for signing Nick Saban.

Now that the university is set to move on, they will look to continue on the tradition that Moore started, but he will never be forgotten.

No one I know that ever met Coach Moore ever described him as anything but a very nice person – someone you’d enjoy meeting and someone who treated you the same as if you were a football superstar or one of the fans. Very good man and he will be missed.

About six weeks ago, my daughter knocked on his office door, introduced herself as a Freshman from California and mentioned she was on the woman’s crew team. Without skipping a beat, she was invited to sit down for a little visit and become acquainted. One example of a legend taking time for a new CRIMSON TIDE family member. That’s a true gentleman! God Speed!!
