After a few weeks of teasing the fans about a wide receiver signing, the Indianapolis Colts and owner Jim Irsay have announced that the team has agreed to a contract with free agent wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey. The two sides have been linked for quite some time and now the pairing is now official. It’s just the latest addition to the Colts 2013 free agent class.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it is a one-year deal for Heyward-Bey:

Last season in Oakland, Heyward-Bey caught 41 passes for 606 yards and five TDs. The stats may not blow you away, but when you consider how poor the Raiders offenense was in 2012 it is pretty impressive.

The 26-year-old speedster should give the Colts an immediate replacement for Donnie Avery, who the team lost in free agency to the Kansas City Chiefs. His ability to stretch the field will provide a nice dynamic to the Indianapolis offense and allow Andrew Luck to show off his arm strentgh.
