It was already known that Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney would not be taking the field on Opening Day, but now the Cubs have gone a step further and placed Barney on the disabled list because of a deep cut to his left knee.
Gonzalez up as Barney goes on DL. Barney says he stopped feeling so bad for his leg injury when he saw L’ville’s Ware’s knee injury.

The 27-year-old Golden Glove winner suffered the cut over the weekend while he was chasing down a foul ball. Brent Lillibridge will take his spot in the infield while Barney recovers.
Last season, Barney put together an impressive 141-game errorless streak while playing in 156 games.
Behind the plate, Barney contributed seven home runs to go along with his .256 batting average. Whenever his knee fully heels, Barney will be welcomed back to the lineup with open arms and help bolster the Cubs defense.
