Although the Number one ranked Stacy Lewis is coming to The Kraft Nabisco Championship looking for her second LPGA Golf major title at Mission Hills, Yani Tseng will be after her sixth. After missing her tee time for the ProAm at the KIA Classic, and was disqualified, I’m sure she has put the episode behind her, and will arrive at the Dinah Shore Tournament course ready to play, and hopefully on time.

The 2012 Nabisco Championship comes to Mission Hills looking to make some history of her own. With a victory here,  Tseng would become the youngest professional golfer to win six major championships, a mark currently held by Tiger Woods at 26 years, 3 months and 9 days when he won the 2001 Masters. Tseng already holds the record for youngest player to five majors when she won the 2011 RICOH Women’s British Open at 22 years, six months and eight days.

Yani Tseng has always played well at Mission Hill, with the 2010 title being her second major. She’s finished in the top-25 in each of her five starts at the Kraft Nabisco, including three top-3 finishes in the past three years. She got her year off to a good start, but her performance fell off somewhat when the LPGA moved back to the US.

She had a second place finish at the ISPS Handa in Australia, and a tie for third at The Thailand Open moving her into first place in the early Rolex Rankings. She finished tied 28th in Singapore, at the HSBC before losing her number one position with a tie for 59th place at the The RR Donnelley Founders Cup. Of course, missing the KIA Classic didn’t help, but she should come to Southern California rested and looking for some kind of redemption.

The 5’6″ Yani Tseng started playing golf at age six, and has been a driving force on the LPGA Tour. In 2008, she became the fastest player in LPGA history to cross the $8 million mark in career earnings when she recorded her second win of the season at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. In 2012, she made 21 of 24 cuts, she had 11 top 10 finishes, and eight top fives to go with her three victories.

She is starting to play better again, and I look for a yearlong battle for the top of the Rolex standings with herself, and Stacy Lewis for the remainder of the 2013 season. This matchup is what we were looking for between Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy,   Stay Tuned Tuned!
