Following the Alabama Crimson Tide’s first scrimmage of the spring, head coach Nick Saban offered some constructive criticism to his team when speaking with the media. Saban says that he was not pleased “enough” with all of his players during the scrimmage, but it was likely a motivational tactic to keep the team working hard leading up to the start of the 2013 season.
“For the first scrimmage of the spring, we’re not where we’d love to be or like to be,” Saban said, via al.com. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, a lot of work to do with a lot of guys. It all starts with guys being able to sustain the kind of mental intensity you need to have to be a good football player, especially when things get a little bit tough.
“(We) just don’t have the mental toughness we need with enough guys to sustain things.”
Players didn’t speak with reporters after the practice.
In a season where Alabama is looking to set themselves up for a three-peat, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Saban is harsh on the team and striving for perfection.
It is going to be a big year for the Alabama program as they hope to continue their dynasty and it is important to make sure the team stays motivated and focused on the ultimate goal.
