The Michigan Wolverines entered their showdown against No. 1 overall seed Louisville in the 2013 NCAA Tournament final with Naismith Player of the Year Trey Burke, who many thought would be the difference maker in the game. So when Burke committed two early fouls and had to make his way to the bench, there was some concern that the Cardinals could make a run.
Well, the exact opposite happened.
Freshman guard Spike Albrecht decided to get inspired from the bright yellow Michigan uniforms and go bananas in the title game.
Albrecht averaged 1.8 points per game during the season and he never scored more than 7 points in a game all year long, so when he went off in the first half it was a surprise to everyone watching, but man was it awesome.
You have to love a player coming out of nowhere on the sport’s biggest stage to have the best game of his career.
It’s crazy to say, but Michigan needs to find a way to keep Albrecht on the court.
Albrecht finished the first half with 17-points on 6-7 shooting and 4-4 from three-point range. It was a truly spectacular outing.
If you missed Albrecht’s insane first half performance, here is a GIF that shows you three of his shots:
Louisville closed the half on a 14-3 run, but Michigan holds a 38-37 halftime lead.
