David Ortiz Expected to Return to Boston Red Sox April 19

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is continuing to get healthier as he recovers from heel inflammation, and his return to the baseball diamond could be just around the corner.

According to beat writer Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, Ortiz has begun his minor league rehab assignment and he is expected to return to the Red Sox on April 19.

Silverman wrote:

The club is hopeful that DH David Ortiz will be ready to be activated as soon as next Friday, April 19, the first game after the club’s road trip to Cleveland. Ortiz begins a rehab assignment with Pawtukcet (AAA) tomorrow. The club and Ortiz believe he will need approximately 20-30 at-bats before being comfortable with where his swing is at. His right heel has responded very well of late.

Just a season ago Ortiz batted .318 with 23 homers and 60 RBI.

His return will bring a reliable, veteran bat to the Red Sox line up, as they look to separate themselves a top the AL East.
