The world’s number two golfer, Rory McIlroy shot his way back into the 2013 Masters on Friday afternoon. The 23 year-old Ulstermen got off to a rocky start on his early tee time during the rain that went through the area, with early bogeys at the first and third holes. The weather cleared up, and McIlroy picked up an eagle three at the par five eighth hole, and it turned his day, and tournament around.

After making the turn at even par, Rory picked up birdies at the 13th, and 14th holes before giving one back at 16. He birdied the 18th hole and made it to the clubhouse at -2 under for the tournament. He shot even par 70 on Thursday but is inching ever so close to the leaders.

The golf course continues to play pretty tough, with fairways that are damp and an unusual wind direction since the cool front blew through.

Rory McIlroy has been continuing to improve each week since his equipment change that took place in Abu Dhabi back in January. He finished second last week at The Valero Texas Open.

He struggled with his putter on Thursday, but made some crucial putts to save par on the front nine. His long game looks to be somewhat back to normal, but the putter is a day-to-day mystery. If he can find some consistency with the flat stick, he certainly has the game to contend on the weekend at Augusta.
