I always knew Josh Rosenthal had a soft spot for the Diaz brothers. Veteran MMA referee Josh Rosenthal recently plead guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute. Rosenthal is set for a date with the U.S. District Court on May 17.
How did Rosenthal get himself in trouble? Here is a brief description via MMA Junkie?
One year ago, federal agents raided an Oakland, Calif., warehouse owned by Rosenthal and an associate that contained 1,356 marijuana plants, according to a copy of the agreement, which MMAjunkie.com(www.mmajunkie.com) obtained from the U.S. District Attorney’s office in Oakland.
The drug’s street value was estimated at more than $6 million.
Man, that’s a lot of weed.
With his plea deal, Rosenthal would face 37 months in jail, fines and five years of probation. That is much better than the 10 years to life in prison, $10 million fine and a minimum of five years’ probation that he would have faced without the plea deal.
Rosenthal was very recognizable by MMA fans and was the referee for a number of notable matches — specifically the Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin bout where he did an admirable job — throughout the sport. He hasn’t been seen lately while he deals with his legal troubles.
As for Rosenthal’s future, he did the crime, will serve his time, and will surely be welcomed in the 209.
