The Arkansas Razorbacks are immensely popular due to the lack of any pro teams in the state, and Arkansas football is undoubtedly the main attraction. Arkansas’s spring game popularity has thus increased, and yesterday marked the third straight season in which the SEC power broke their attendance record for a spring game. Not only did they break it, but they shattered it. 51,000 people went to watch the game in Fayetteville, and that topped the previous record set in 2011 of 45,250.

New Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema was amazed by the turnout of fans, “I was blown away to see over 51,000 fans support us today. It’s a steady process. I like the progress we’ve made. The team responded very positively, with success on both sides of the ball. We’re in a great position and that gets me very excited.”

Razorbacks fans are absolutely crazy about their team, and they were treated to a good game on Saturday with Red taking down White 34-27. Both quarterbacks Brandon Allen and Brandon Mitchell showed up well with 68.8% and 70.6% completion percentages respectively to pace their offense.

At half-time, the Razorbacks honored three former players in Jerry Franklin, New England Patriots prized backup quarterback Ryan Mallett, interior offensive lineman Mitch Petrus (briefly reunited with Mallet on the Patriots last season before signing with the Tennessee Titans), and last year’s seniors.

Arkansas hosted several top recruits such as 2014 prospects Jabe Burgess, Josiah Wymer, Deandre Murray, and Drew Smith. 2015 Pine Bluff tight end Will Gragg was also a key visitor. The record number of fans that attended the game likely made an impression upon these recruits, and it was certainly a great spring game all-around in Fayetteville.
