Legendary Broadcaster Al Michaels Arrested, Charged With DUI

The man who uttered the famous “do you believe in miracles?” play-by-play call was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Saturday night in Santa Monica, California. Al Michaels, currently employed by NBC, was reportedly caught making an illegal U-turn and was recorded with a blood alcohol level of at least .08 (specific details not released).

Michaels is one of the most well-known and well-respected play-by-play voices in the history of American sports, and he has covered the NFL, NBA, and the Olympics for a period of over three decades. NBC Sports was quoted with a statement: “We are aware of the situation, and we’ve spoken to Al. We have no further comment at this time.”

It would be pretty surprising to see NBC discipline Michaels in any public forum, but with the increased scrutiny on public figures in today’s media, the spotlight will shine brightly on him in the coming days. With that said, however, I would expect to see and hear him on NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcasts for the upcoming 2013 season.
