Vinny Del Negro Says Los Angeles Lakers Have No Shot Against San Antonio Spurs

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro showed that he’s got some jokes at the team’s press conference following their win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Saturday’s Game 1 playoff match up. At the end of his press conference, Del Negro was asked a simple question. “Do the Los Angeles Lakers have a chance against the Spurs?” He then gave a simple, one-word answer.

“No,” Del Negro said as the reporters responded with laughter, according to Pro Basketball Talk.

To be fair to Del Negro, he used to play for the San Antonio Spurs and he used that fact to defend his statement. Del Negro spent six seasons with the Spurs, and was actually still a member of the team whenever Kobe Bryant joined the NBA back in 1996.

Of course, Kobe won’t be playing for the Lakers this postseason while he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon.

The Spurs and Lakers will take the court at 3:30 p.m. ET this afternoon live on ABC. We will find out whether or not Del Negro’s assessment was correct.
