Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has finally been handed down his punishment for grabbing the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and biting in to it over the weekend. The Independent Regulatory Commission announced that Suarez would be given a ten-game English Premier League ban.
The punishment is effective immediately, which means Suarez will miss the remainder of the EPL season. The ban will also spill in to next season as he misses the first six games of the 2013-14 English Premier League season.
“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision. We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment,” Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre said in a statement that was released on the team’s website.
Suarez can appeal the punishment, but it is highly unlikely that he would be successful in such an appeal. If he decides to go that direction, Suarez will have until noon on Friday to file his appeal.
Between his punishments for biting and using racial slurs over the past few years, Suarez’s relationship with Liverpool could finally be coming to an end.
