The NFL has really begun to value the tight end position, so it’s not a bad year to be the top rated tight end prospect like Notre Dame’s Tyler Eifert. Eifert was believed by many to be a solid candidate to land in the bottom third of the first round at the 2013 NFL Draft on Thursday night, but it is looking more and more like his name could be called sooner than expected.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday morning that Eifert could be selected in the top ten tomorrow night.
The first potential landing spot for Eifert would be the No. 6 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns, but the No. 9 selection with the New York Jets seems to be a much more likely fit. For a team in need of playmakers at every position, he will certainly be in the mix.
You also can’t rule out the Miami Dolphins or the Pittsburgh Steelers if Eifert falls out of the top 15.
One thing is for certain. Teams are valuing the tight end position more than ever and there are a number of teams who would love to land Eifert on draft day. His exact spot in the draft order will be determined in a little of 24 hours.
