Russ Smith Forgoes NBA Draft; Returns to Louisville

Immediately after the 2013 NCAA Tournament final, Louisville Cardinals guard Russ Smith had implied that he would be entering the 2013 NBA Draft. Smith’s father seconded the opinion, but now Smith has had a change of heart.

On Wednesday afternoon, Smith announced that he would be returning to Louisville for one more season.

“I really realized how much I enjoyed playing with my teammates and how much fun it is to win,” Smith said.

Smith at  6-0, 165 pounds really lacks the size of an NBA player. One of his goals during his next season at Louisville is to bulk up and add at least ten pounds of muscle, according to the Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino.

“When he leaves here, he is going to be one of the most successful Louisville basketball players ever,” Pitino said, via USA Today.

Last season, Smith paced the Cardinals in scoring with 18.7 points per game.

As we all know, the Louisville Cardinals finished out their season with a championship win over Michigan.
