NFL Mock Draf 2013: Indianapolis Colts Select…

This pick was made by Josh Hill from Fansided.com

The Indianapolis Colts select Datone Jones, defensive end from UCLA.

Chuck Pagano spent last season crafting his offense and now is the time to turn the attention to the defensive side of things. A former defensive coordinator, Pagano needs an edge rusher who can play right away and make an impact — and that appears to be Datone Jones.

Jones is a guy who shot up draft boards late in the offseason, but he’s being mocked in the first round for good reason. A fast, physical pass rusher, Jones is going to help give the Colts a presence on the defensive frontline the way Dwight Freeney was able to all these years. The production Freeney was able to give the Colts before they switched him to linebacker is something that was sorely lacking in Indy’s great run last season and it was a weakness that showed late in the year.

Really, defensive end is one of the only needs the team has, and while an offensive lineman isn’t a bad choice here, that can be had in the second round. A stout defensive end is a need and Jones will fill it for years to come.

Here is how the draft currently stands:

1. Kansas City Chiefs — Eric Fisher, offensive tackle, Central Michigan
2. Jacksonville Jaguars — Dion Jordan, defensive end, Oregon
