The San Diego Chargers are having one of the best drafts of all teams selecting this season, and they continued to stack themselves with talent by selecting massive wide receiver Keenan Allen from California. Allen was once projected to be a first round pick but fell into the third round after a PCL injury and a slow recovery caused some teams to drop him on their draft boards.
But even though he’s a third round pick, many believe Allen possesses first-round talent and the Chargers could very well be getting a real steal by getting him where they did.
Mike McCoy has made it his business to improve the offense in his first season, and that shows in the selections of D.J. Fluker in the first round to protect Philip Rivers and the selection of Allen in the third round for Rivers to throw to. Allen will be a deep threat who can give Rivers a Vincent Jackson type of target that he’s been missing since Jackson left before last season.
Allen has injury issues and those will need to be cleared up before he can move forward with his NFL career. But if those knees heal and Allen returns to full-health for the Chargers, this could end up being one of the stronger drafts put together by San Diego in some time.
