The New York Knicks wore black socks on Wednesday night to mimic a funeral for the Boston Celtics. But not only did the Celtics stay alive, Jordan Crawford reportedly told Carmelo Anthony that members of the team had previously had some fun with his mother. This was a call back to an earlier incident this season when Melo confronted Keven Garnett after a game in Madison Square Garden, going as far as to wait for the big man in the proverbial school yard after class.

As the story goes, Kevin Garnett started a fight on the court when he told Melo that he enjoyed private relations with his mother’s loins, and Melo obviously didn’t like hearing this. Crawford apparently brought this up again on Wednesday, but he has since denied saying anything to Melo about his mother while on the court.

We really won’t know if Crawford actually said something on the court to Melo about his mother, as there are two wildly different versions of the story. But the psyche job might have worked, as the Knicks weren’t their usual selves against the Celtics and haven’t been since failing to close out the series this weekend at the TD Garden.

You’d have to believe that Crawford would have owned up to verbally burning Melo on the court, but then again a suspension is the last thing the Celtics need at this point. So even if something was really said, Crawford is doing the smart thing and denying the whole thing.
